January 9 – 12: Travels to Australia – Long but Worth It!

We took two days to travel to Australia. On the 9th we flew to Los Angeles California to stay overnight. We located a cafe (further away than expected) for a very good Indonesian meal, slept well and left early on January 10th for our long journey to Sydney.

Our long trip became a few hours longer due to an issue with the Aircraft in LA but since we were flying Hawaiian Airlines all the way, the airline held the next leg of the flight in Honolulu until 50 of us on the delayed LA flight arrived.

The overall time in the planes from LA to Sydney added up to about 7 1/2 hours to Honolulu and 10 1/2 hours to Sydney = 18 hours – a lot of sitting although we did get up and walk a bit.

In LA we were delighted to find an Indonesian restaurant not too far away, although it seemed far when we took a taxi to it during rush hour. Food was delicious and it seemed a great way to begin our journey.

After arriving in Sydney we traveled to our hotel and recovered from traveling for a day or so. On January 12th we accidentally found historical building while looking for breakfast – the Queen Victoria Block which is now a fabulous mall with a basement that links to other buildings and to a train station!

Queen Victoria Block (mall) near our hotel. Huge, ornate, high end clothing etc, and connects to underground shops and trains!

January 12th adventures are continued on the next post…
