February 3 – Melbourne, Australia

We slept pretty well and found a good place for breakfast down a little alley – we aren’t paying $30 each for the hotels breakfast! But the important part of the day was coming in mid-morning or so – We were soon to meet Dirk’s on-line friend and family – they had been chatting on and off for about 30 years! Tim and Jasmine have two daughters, 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 and we had a great day with them.

After talking for a while in the elegant Emporium mall where we met we headed for lunch and got to know each other and enjoy their children too.

After lunch we decided to take a tram to the Botanic Gardens which meant seeing the famous Federation Square on the way. It seems to include the National Galley of Victoria (Art), old and refurbished train station and other nearby significant buildings.

The trams are free in the inner city loop, otherwise we needed a “myki” card to pay for a trip so we are proud owners of 2 cards. The Botanic Garden included a war remembrance building and then some beautiful grounds. We walked and enjoyed it for a while but only saw about 1/4 of it – maybe we’ll get back there another day.

We had a light dinner and relaxed after our very nice day.
