Today was one of our longest driving days and wouldn’t you know it was pouring most of the way. And the weather forecast was looking gloomy for the next week too, but you never know about weather here so we kept positive. The stops today were short, just along the main road, but still some were entertaining just to see how they draw us in.

We also saw bananas fields growing along the road, sometimes next to the continuing sugarcane fields.

The rain was intermittent by the time we arrived in Cairns and our hotel on Esplanade (next to ocean area). We settled in, ate in the local cafe and headed to Dirks favorite thing – a roof bar. We were lucky – it’s practically next to our hotel.

Before ending the day we booked an adventure for tomorrow on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. We wanted to take the return Railway too but it’s been closed due to a recent cyclone. A good day!
