February 4, Melbourne Day 2

It was around 70 degrees in the morning and went up to 99 degrees by 3pm – very very warm but we survived – just barely. The plan today was to go up the Sky Tower and then to travel the free Tram loop as a way of seeing the highlights of the city.

We walked to the Sky Tower down to near the Federation Square and then across the Ybarra River. We found the building, paid our money (Dirk asked for the senior rate and there was one!) and then up 82 floors. Views were great – fun to see all around the city.

Next, with some difficulty due to some changes of schedule we found the correct Tram line (35!) that would take us around the city. The car was quaint and more AC would have been nice but it was an interesting hour or so trip.

I wanted to see the aboriginal museum near Federation Square so we left the Tram and finally found the Koorie Heritage Trust which had exhibits of Koorie/aboriginal art and pottery. I learned later that Koorie is a preferred term over “aboriginal”. There was also some information about all the tribes and languages spoken before the Europeans came.

Later we found a roof top bar for a cooling drink and then headed back to the hotel. A good day.
