January 30- Auckland to Rotorua

We headed to the airport to rent a car for our next adventure/challenge – driving on the left side of the road! We took turns and we headed out on our two hour drive to our first stop – Waitomo to visit the Glow Worm Caves.

Driving on the left is challenging – I tended to stay to far to the left. The funny thing is putting on the blinkers – the lever is on the right but we kept hitting the left side lever which turns on the windshield wipers.! We spoke with other non-left side drivers today and they have the same “funny” issue.

I had heard about the Glow Worm cave and since it’s on the way to Rotorua wanted to see it. There more to it than glow worms – the caverns are tall and long and the tour director showed us around. After seeing an example of the glow worms in the cave we headed down a stairway to get on large row boat. The glow worms need moisture and live on the top of the lower cave walls. They have a blue glow and as we looked up we could see blue glowing dots on the ceiling.
